公元2019年10月12日，重庆大学喜迎九十华诞。谨此，向关心、支持、参与重庆大学建设发展的各级领导、各界贤达、海内外校友和全体师生员工致以衷心感谢和崇高敬意！

学府宏开，济济隆隆。近代以来，时局激荡，大国崛起急需新知，华夏图强渴盼栋梁。爱国志士多方奔走倡议筹立巴渝学府，川东父老满腔赤诚捐资施力兴学报国。1929年10月12日，循世界近代大学之制度，振民族复兴之木铎，重庆大学宣告奠立。自此，弘深学府，步伐坚毅，铭记“人类之文野，国家之理乱，悉以人才为其主要之因”，勤勉于“不计久远之成功，惟是当前之戮力”，执着于“不期一驾之企及，惟是十驾之不休”，育栋梁拄长天，兴教育佑乡邦。

启兹天府，积健为雄。嘉陵江畔，草木欣欣，书声琅琅。重大之兴办，解深造无门之急，树西南风声，领时代风尚。地处西部，但未有一时一隅之浅见，眼望星辰，胸怀八荒，无论风雨几何，行跬步而不休，积累土而不辍。创业之初艰难缔造，意气风发巍峨屹立；抗战岁月学灯灿亮，昂首不屈光映红岩；建国伊始院系调整，顺势而行担当作为；三校合并再度起航，凝心聚力踔厉奋发；此后“211”继而“985”，至今矢志世界一流。荟群英施教化，春风化雨誉满华夏；乘长风破巨浪，挺立潮头志报国家。

复兴民族，誓作前锋。怀先贤思来者，初心不忘；迎未来领风尚，光景日新。欲远瞩而必高瞻，欲钜业而必宏图。扎根中华，放眼世界；立德树人，振兴家邦。对标一流，追求卓越；服务发展，引领未来。以“耐劳苦、尚俭朴、勤学业、爱国家”为警训，坚信大道行远；以“研究学术、造就人才、佑启乡邦、振导社会”为己任，必定日进无疆。值此九十华诞之际，以“铭初心，聚众力，塑文化，建一流”为主旨，以“复兴民族，誓作前锋”为主题，办兼具重大特色和全球视野之校庆，总结办学经验，展示办学成就，凝聚各方力量，推动学校发展，激扬“完备弘深”之梦想。

重温初心引九秩薪火，大有可为领创新时代。重庆大学九十周年校庆年从即日起正式启动。衷心期盼广大校友重返母校，再叙情谊，追忆求学岁月，共襄发展大业；诚挚邀请各界宾朋共聚山城，携手合作，唱响前锋壮歌，同谱未来华章！

We have been a leading center of higher education for nine decades. Our accomplished students serve near and far. It is our conviction that the noble enterprise of education will also bless the ages to come. 

Holding our place between two mighty rivers, we witness the growing renown of this institution across land and sea. Ours is a commitment to civilization that safeguards the wholesomeness of the Chinese homeland. 

October 12, 2019 will mark  Chongqing University’s 90th anniversary. We want to take the occasion to  compliment and express  our gratitude to leaders in government and society at large, alumni at home and abroad, and our current body of students, staff and faculty for all the care, support and participation in making the University what she is today.

Chongqing University came into being with vision and momentum. Since the middle of 19th century, as history entered a phase of turbulence, the renaissance of this great nation has called for breakthroughs in knowledge. The rejuvenation of an ancient people has demanded leaders of action and the highest integrity.  The launch of modern higher education in the Ba-Yu region materialized because of extensive collaboration  of our  patriotic forefathers and the enthusiastic financial support of local elders embracing education as a means to serve our national purpose.  

On October 12, 1929, the University is  founded on the international model of modern higher education with a mission to arouse the people in the fashion of Confucius millenia before. Since then, the institution has achieved steady progress across the breadth and depth of her pursuits, staying true to her motto that “educated individuals are the ultimate forces to determine if the human race would remain civilized or slip into barbarism, and if political states may operate in an orderly manner or end up in chaos.” Our effort is always “to give every ounce of dedication currently at our disposal”. We never “hope for hitting the target at a single strike, but believe in finally meeting our goal by steadfast toil.” With every graduating class of excellent young men and women we contribute to a brighter horizon for future generations. As we plant the seeds of education in the native soil our local communities also draw bountiful nutrients for their own enrichment.  

The university was established near the joining of the Yangtze and Jialing rivers. Through the decades it has been a home for scholars and beacon of enlightenment for our homeland.  Since its early days when her doors first stood open, the University has been a citadel for the young people of our country who eagerly desire a place to learn and grow. We are  at the forefront of change and progress for China and are vanguards for a bright future for our country. Though located in a less developed region, Chongqing University has always made a point that its ambitions traverse time and space. From its inception the University has endured through severe hardship. We persevered through struggles and difficulties by always focusing  our eyes on the prize of a better and more prosperous China.

Our ranks swelled in the midst of the Great War of Resistance, and the triumph of  Communism In the 1950s, this institution went through systematic reorganization and reform.  This change was marked by the  union of three formerly separate branches and represented a point of rebirth in our history. With increasing national recognition, we look forward to projecting ourselves to the forefront in the world of education. In a Mencius spirit of “gathering and teaching the best youths in our society ” we take pride in our contributions to our communities, our nation and the world. We face a future marked with  uncertainty and risks of pressing magnitude. However we are well equipped with a spirit of bravery and dedication that rests on the work and influence of our Chinese ancestors.

The University certainly places herself at the forefront  of our people’s renaissance. As tribute to the past and taking command of our  future, we do  not lose sight of our beginnings but seize every opportunity to impart values, build  character in our young people and serve  both our  local communities and our nation.  With the best among our peers as inspiration, we will press on in endeavors to excel and  to prepare our society for the future. Our service is focused on  personal development. We will never part with the insistence that a scholar must “bear hardship, live simply, be diligent in his studies and dedicated to his country.” We trust that only broad and solid roads help travelers on long journeys. And if we continue to take it on ourselves to “persist in the quest for knowledge, cultivate talents, support local enterprises and invigorate our national society,” we may look forward to a bright future for Chongqing University and a more prosperous China.

Now that the 90th anniversary of her initial making is to be upon us, the University community will come together for celebrations that combine our unique resources with global perspectives. The University is a vanguard for growth, development and prosperity in China. It is within such a framework that we seek to call forth support from near and far, contemplate our next phase of growth, and keep alive our dreams for a university “well-endowed for her pursuits in knowledge, building personal character and serving our country”

As we refresh the memory of our founding purposes, as we prepare ourselves to take leadership in the approaching time of vast innovation and change, this is to announce that celebrations for the 90th anniversary of Chongqing University are now formally under way. It is our sincerest hope that they mark an occasion for campus reunions among our large numbers of alumni, so that friendship may be renewed, shared past relived, and a shared and momentous future may collectively emerge. We also hereby issue a warm invitation to friends and guests from all positions and professions to visit with us in Chongqing, the City of Hills. Let us work together, to press forward with courage and camaraderie, to reach for the glory that is our future!
